Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Peace be upon you, Traditional Islam is filled with a number of cultural preferences that are mistaken for religious or Quranic rules. For example, a newcomer to Submission (Islam), may hear that they should wear green, avoid silk, and eliminate gold watches or jewelry. Other people may tell them that dogs cannot be kept as pets, nor can they listen to music. God's words are complete, fully detailed and all we need for salvation. And the previously mentioned prohibitions are not laws from Quran. Instead, dogs are perfectly acceptable as pets (18:9-22). And a modest dress (Quran 24:30-31) is our Quranic guideline, not the color, fabric or choice of accessories. Instead, God strongly condemns innovated prohibitions (e.g., prohibiting music or the use of silk). Innovated Prohibitions Condemned [Quran 7:32] Say, "Who prohibited the nice things GOD has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say, "Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know. [Quran 18:18] ... We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their dog stretched his arms in their midst. ... Quran: Fully Detailed* [Quran 6:114] Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed?* Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt. [6:115] The word of your Lord is complete,* in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient. {footnote} *6:113-115 Upholding any source beside the Quran reflects disbelief in the Quran (Appendix 18).
