Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Peace be upon you, December 24 and 25 (2015) were celebrated by some as the birthdays of Muhammad and Jesus respectively. What better way to respect Jesus or Muhammad than to observe the message they brought? From the scriptures we learn that all of God's messengers preached, "Worship God alone". Using the example of Jesus: [Quran 3:50-51] "I confirm previous scripture―the Torah―and I revoke certain prohibitions imposed upon you. I come to you with sufficient proof from your Lord. Therefore, you shall observe GOD, and obey me. "GOD is my Lord and your Lord;* you shall worship Him alone. This is the right path." *3:51 This is precisely what Jesus is quoted to say throughout the New Testament. See for example the Gospel of John 20:17, and the book "Jesus: Myths and Message" by Lisa Spray, Ch. 4 (Universal Unity, Fremont, California, 1992). [Matthew 22:36-38] "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. Jesus consistently sought to do the will of God, knowing God is the only One who is good. [John 5:30] "I cannot do anything of myself. I judge as I hear, and my judgment is honest because I am not seeking my own will but the will of him who sent me." [Mark 10:17-18] As he was setting out on a journey a man came running up, knelt down before him and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to share in everlasting life?" Jesus answered, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone." May God help us remain devoted to Him alone, and to make no distinction among His messengers (Quran 2:136, 2:285, 3:84, 4:150-152).
