In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Peace be upon you,

We are in another new year. What are some of our goals for 2018? Is it our aim to accumulate wealth, focus on our family, or find success in school or in our career? How about preparing ourselves for the real, eternal life? The Quran tells us what our goal should be.

[Quran 30:8] ... GOD did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, except for a specific purpose, and for a specific life span. ...

[Quran 51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.


There is nothing wrong in wanting to be the best we can be, or to have the best we can have, as long as we do realize the purpose of our lives is to worship God alone. The righteous give priority to the Hereafter over this life (Quran 17:19). They are not distracted by business or trade from commemorating GOD (Quran 24:37).
