Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Peace be upon you, [Quran 33:48] ... disregard their insults, and put your trust in GOD; GOD suffices as an advocate. Recently politicians in India insulted the prophet Muhammad for his marriage to Aysha. People have ridiculed messengers of God in the past and continue to do so. What does the Quran say about responding to such insults? While the matter is not directly addressed in the Quran, there are related verses which give us an idea of an appropriate response. For example, we see that if someone had insulted God's messenger, the messenger is told to disregard the insults and leave the matter to God (Quran 33:48). We can also ask ourselves, what would we do if someone insults God Almighty? We can also learn from another example in the Quran: if someone insults God's revelations, we are to avoid them until they delve into another subject (Quran 6:68). And while we are not responsible for their utterances, a reminder may benefit (Quran 6:69). God knows everything and will call everyone to account. Meanwhile, we should set the best example and take the path of righteousness and peace. We shouldn't curse people's idols (Quran 6:108) and we should respect all of God's messengers (Quran 5:12).
