Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful ** Ramadan: Ramadan starts April 2 in USA, God willing. Please see https://masjidtucson.org/submission/practices/ramadan/#dates for other countries ** Peace be upon you, [Quran 2:185] Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. GOD wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding you, and to express your appreciation. The month of Ramadan begins this weekend. Fasting (in Arabic: Seyam or sawm) during Ramadan lasts from dawn until sunset. The practices of Submission are a great gift from God. They constitute the nourishment required for the growth and development of our souls. Without such nourishment, we cannot survive the immense energy associated with God's physical presence on the Day of Judgment. The religious duties, including fasting, come down to us from Abraham (Quran 2:183, 2:135). If we can observe them in a manner pleasing to God, we get many benefits. Furthermore, these practices allow us to be more conscious of God in our lives. Besides nourishing our soul, the real self, fasting has numerous scientifically proven benefits for our physical health and the mental well-being of our body.
