Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Peace be upon you, The Second Commandment [Quran 31:14] We enjoined the human being to honor his parents. His mother bore him, and the load got heavier and heavier. It takes two years (of intensive care) until weaning. You shall be appreciative of Me, and of your parents. To Me is the ultimate destiny. The commandment to honor our parents is in the previous scriptures (e.g., Exodus 20:12, Matthew 15:4) and in the Quran (e.g., 6:151, 31:14). The reminder to honor one's parents follows the commandment to worship God alone in multiple verses (hence the term "second commandment"). Naturally, our devotion and loyalty to God Almighty must come first (Quran 29:8). We are also told to avoid showing annoyance towards our parents and to treat them in the nicest manner even if we turn away from them to pursue God's mercy (Quran 17:23-28). If we make a mistake, we can seek God's forgiveness and try to do better. May God help us to pass our tests and to observe all His commandments.
