Intoxicants and Gambling Prohibited
[Quran 5:90] O you who believe, intoxicants, and gambling, and the altars of idols, and the games of chance are abominations of the devil; you shall avoid them, that you may succeed.

[Quran 2:219]. ... "In them there is a gross sin, and some benefits for the people. But their sinfulness far outweighs their benefit." ...


The Quran makes a strong prohibition against all intoxicants including alcohol--terming them an abomination of the devil (Quran 5:90). While science has lagged behind the Quranic wisdom, recent research has painted a clearer picture of its dangers. A report by the World Health Organization published this month titled, "No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health", linked alcohol consumption to at least seven types of cancer. Scientists believe that alcohol damages our DNA and prevents our body from repairing the damage. This is in addition to the harm that was already recognized such as traffic fatalities, brain damage to children of alcoholic mothers, family crises, and other disastrous consequences.

Those who believe in God's words abstain from intoxicants no matter what. However, the scientific evidence strengthens our belief in God's words.

May God strengthen our faith and help us observe all His commandments.
