Abraham's Prayers

Cont'd from page 3

[14:41] “My Lord, forgive me and my parents, and the believers, on the day when the reckoning takes place.”

Even Abraham’s asking for reassurance is an example for us. We may feel doubt, but all we have to do is ask God for assurance and He will show us His proofs.

[2:260] Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You revive the dead.” He said, “Do you not believe?” He said, “Yes, but I wish to reassure my heart.” He said, “Take four birds, study their marks, place a piece of each bird on top of a hill, then call them to you. They will come to you in a hurry. You should know that GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.”

Abraham’s strength as he debated with his people is inspiring. 6:74-81 show him demonstrating that there is no other god besides God. He ends this section with: [6:79] “I have devoted myself absolutely to the One who initiated the heavens and the earth; I will never be an idol worshiper.” [6:80] His people argued with him. He said, “Do you argue with me about GOD, after He has guided me? I have no fear of the idols you set up. Nothing can happen to me, unless my Lord wills it. My Lord’s knowledge encompasses all things. Would you not take heed? [6:81] “Why should I fear your idols? It is you who should be afraid, since you worship instead of GOD

idols that are utterly powerless to help you. Which side is more deserving of security, if you know?”

As he argued with his father, he said: [19:48] “I will abandon you and the gods you worship besides GOD. I will worship only my Lord. By imploring my Lord alone, I cannot go wrong.” Beautiful words to remember—we cannot go wrong when we implore God.

And another time: [43:26-8] Abraham said to his father and his people, “I disown what you worship. Only the One who initiated me can guide me.” This example (of Abraham) was rendered an everlasting lesson for subsequent generations; perhaps they redeem their souls.

Abraham is a strong and positive example for all times and all places. As you read the Quran, note the various prayers attributed to him and the number of times God uses him as a lesson.

[3:68] The people most worthy of Abraham are those who followed him, and this prophet, and those who believe. GOD is the Lord and Master of the believers.

Abraham: Delivered All  Religious Duties of Islam

[21:73] We made them imams who guided in accordance with our commandments, and we taught them how to work righteousness, and how to observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and the obligatory charity (Zakat). To us, they were devoted worshipers.

New Year’s High

On New Year’s Eve, lots of people ended the year high and many also started high. And some of those who started high are right now feeling low. You may or may not have made any resolutions, or gone out for any celebration, but however you woke up on New Year’s Day, remember that you ended the old year on a High Note and started the new year on a High Note. The last night prayer of 2017, and the first dawn of 2018. You woke up and prayed. And when you did your dawn Contact Prayer, you said Subhaana Rabbiyal A’ala, which is ‘Glory be to my Lord, Most High.’ And when you praise the Most High, He raises your soul high in preparation for the eternal high heaven (God willing). And you go through this blessing day after day. This is a provision very few people have, and no one can take it away from you. So however good or bad your day appears, remember that you always started on a High Note. While others may have needed spirits to get high, God blesses you, His servant, with a continuous spiritual high. Glory be to God.

Happy New Year
